Student Sensory Assistant Position

The Sensory Evaluation Center at the Food Science Department is looking for a Sensory Assistant for the 2023/24 Academic year.  Academic credit (up to 3 credits per semester) are offered as compensation.

Duties include helping with…

  • Help with study set up:  conducting inventory of supplies, labeling cups/plates for the test samples, assisting in preparation of test samples, help with questionnaire programming into specialized software (RedJade).  Note:  No experience needed, on-the-job training will be provided.
  • Help with panel recruitment and management of Center’s social media pages (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc.).
  • Help with test fielding: preparing (including microwaving, baking in the oven, etc. depending on the product type) and serving the test samples from the Sensory Kitchen, cleaning up the Sensory Kitchen and the Sensory Booths, after testing is completed.
  • Writing a blog post (1 per semester) for Sensory Evaluation Center website based on a recently conducted research (published paper) or another topic related to Center activities.

Work schedule:

  • Flexible, 9-12 hours per week
  • Must be available on at least one day a week during the “peak” hours (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10 am to 5pm), for at least 1 uninterrupted 2 hour time block

Requirements:

  • Interested in a future career in the Sensory or Consumer Research field.
  • Detail oriented, follows instructions.
  • Comfortable in social situations/talking to people.
  • Experience managing social media is a plus.
