Spring 2016: Readings for Sharon Tregaskis session

Ithaca-based science writer Sharon Tregaskis (https://sites.google.com/site/sharontregaskis/Home) will be with us on Saturday morning. For her session, she’s suggested that you at least skim these two stories in advance. She says:

“The 2013 glioblastoma feature (2,000 words) is a reasonable example of science writing on cancer and there are components that will allow us to talk a bit about metaphor and reader literacy level, as well as basic narrative components/structure/strategy.”

“The 3,000-word Katsoyannis profile (history of science/biochemical discovery) is a stronger story and a better read. I want to talk about why the stories turned out so differently, because I think it’s instructive both for scientists engaging with the media and those who aspire to telling such stories.”
