Trusting or Naive?

Posted by sms477 in Uncategorized

It seems in my last post, I got distracted updating and never made it to the compare & contrasting part. Sorry again for not more regular posts, guess I’m more for the longggg update periodically than the regular poster (which I realized some years ago, hence I could never be a daily journalist, but more of a feature article type girl).

So here is 1 short culture difference (I will post some shorter posts to catch up!)

I feel like I meet someone new everyday here, really. But part of this is due to the fact that you can trust people more in Europe.

My roommate & I made friends with the owner of a small bar right next door to our dorm. That may sound a bit sketchy a first. Even writing it does seem a bit hard for me to believe still. But things are different here, really. I now see why no one understands the violence & shootings in our country. But it’s not based on any law about guns. For some reason, violence is just a part of American culture–one of the most negative aspects of our culture, but nevertheless there. I don’t understand why any better than the next European, but I don’t think there is a clear “why”. Some things just are how they are, no explanation. It is perhaps more of a result of how our country developed and is very pro innovations & the jumping on the next great technological advancement, go go gadget, get it!

Not only are people more trusting, but they are also very honest. If you have a problem with someone, just say it. It’s not meant to be offense, but some comments are just so blunt I have to remind my self it’s the culture!
