Learning opportunities at the CTE

If you are a TA, chances are you have taken classes with the Center for Teaching Excellence.  But, did you know many of their classes are open to any interested student?  Consider the GetSet courses through CTE to improve your public speaking skills.  Part of this program is the GTAF (Graduate Teaching Assistant Fellow) program. Graduate students act as leaders and liaisons for their departments and a large part of their role is to lead group workshop sessions. GRTFs (Graduate Research and Teaching Fellows) also do presentations on their projects to large groups of people.

On the CTE website are even more ‘Teaching Ideas‘ resources. Since teaching involves speaking in front of a group of people, engaging students, and facilitating discussions, some of the content is directly related to aspects of public speaking. Graduate students who are currently TAs may also be interested in the Teaching in Higher Education course.

Lastly, keep your eyes peeled for some more public speaking workshops offered by the library next semester…!
