The Bookless Branch: Engineering Library transition is complete!

On June 30, the last of Engineering Library’s books went out the door, redistributed across the campus based on their subject to Math, Mann, Uris, Olin and the Library Annex. Thanks to all who helped with this effort and thanks to our patrons who put up with the noise and inconvenience of this transitional period.

The Engineering Library is now a “bookless branch”: A library without books on-site. We thus no longer offer the following services at our Carpenter Hall location:

-Books (obviously!)

-Course reserves

-Book drop-off

But Carpenter Hall now has some new amenities including:

-Food allowed

-24/7 access to the reading room, with access using campus ID after 4 PM on weekdays

And we continue to offer study space, computers–both open-use and in the ACCEL classrooms, printers, scanners, small-group study rooms, and the services of the two librarians, Jill Powell and Jeremy Cusker, who will remain on-site and available to help students, faculty and staff at the College.

And the Engineering Library will continue to grow: We will purchase new books, journals and databases even though the collection will no longer “live” at Carpenter. Want to see what’s new? Check out this RSS page.
