Expanded e-journal and e-book coverage in Physical Sciences

Expanded Elsevier e-journal coverage

5 years after the Cornell faculty senate resolution to reduce our spend with the publisher Elsevier, we have negotiated a contract that enables Cornell to access all Elsevier journal content from 1995-current. This new license brings Elsevier more in line with the agreements we have with other major scientific publishers and restores access to dozens of journals we have cancelled in the past 10+ years. The full Elsevier list has been added to the library catalog and physical sciences related titles are included in the Physical Sciences library ejournal list, http://astech.library.cornell.edu/ast/phys/find/e-journals.cfm . Please note that this deal does not include content prior to 1995, older online issues are sold separately in packages, several of which we have already purchased and will continue to acquire as funds allow.

New e-book policy for Springer

Through 2008 we received several books series and a fraction of the single books published by Springer in print form. Unfortunately this model is no longer affordable and we would be forced to cut back drastically on our book series purchases. However, for a significant discount, Springer has offered us permanent access to the electronic versions of all of their books in select subject areas from 1997-2009 for book series and 2005-2009 for single books. So for 2009, we are discontinuing print books from Springer to try the ebook model, we view this as an experiment and are eager to hear your thoughts and comments. Electronic links to the series below have been added to the catalog and the Physical Sciences Library ejournal page, http://astech.library.cornell.edu/ast/phys/find/e-journals.cfm . Single books will be added to the catalog during the spring semester.

E-book series available (1997-2009):

  • Advances in Polymer Science
  • Advances in Solid State Physics
  • Lecture Notes in Physics
  • Springer Tracts in Modern Physics
  • Structure & Bonding
  • Topics in Current Chemistry
