Epidemiology Applications

The EVADE program has been involved with the development and release of three applications in collaboration with Scot Nelson, University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Leaf Doctor: This application uses a unique approach to quantifying disease severity on a sampling unit directly using self-selected pixels designating diseased and healthy tissue. The algorithm within the app was shown to have higher accuracy and precision than standard approaches to quantifying disease severity and has advantages of being on a mobile platform and is of no cost to users.

Estimate: This application was developed as a modular, mobile platform repository for standard area diagrams to facilitate accurate and precise estimation of disease severity.

Cluster: This application represents a new conceptual framework for spatial analysis of plant disease epidemics using images and color designation of pixels. The approach is equally applicable to analysis of remotely sensed data in landscape ecology and other biological sciences.
