This section explores the historical significance of Hemisfair Park by first examining the site history of the World’s Fair and the regional context of San Antonio. By identifying different sustainability initiatives that have been proposed, we provide recommendations to revitalize the site and reuse the fair-era buildings to create a more vibrant and sustainable park community. Based on existing master plan proposals for Hemisfair and client discussions, we have proposed two scenario plans for the park: Peaceful Sculpture Park and a Lively Mixed-Use Neighborhood Park. Finally, we offer a financial analysis using an open source scenario planning tool called Envision Tomorrow to test the feasibility of our proposed building reuse options.
