Fall semesters 2015 has officially come to a close for the students of Cornell University. For the SHA MMH class, end of semester was greeted with a giant sigh of relief! It’s been a really busy semester.

After our last final, about 2/3 of the MMH ’15 class chose to participate in HADM 7950: MMH Masters Class. The Masters Class is an opportunity for MMH students to visit a selected hospitality outlet in order to examine their operating procedures and engage in interactive discussion with the executive of that outlet. This year the MMH ’15 Masters Class was held at Turnberry Isle Resort in Aventura, Florida (http://www.turnberryislemiami.com).

Turnberry Isle Resort is a beautiful resort located in Aventura, Florida which is about 11 miles outside of Miami. This full-service resort encompass 2 world-class golf courses, a full spa and fitness center, a lazy river, 2 pools, a beach club and marina. As well, Turnberry Isle Resort also houses Bourbon Steak, a Michael Mina restaurant and this past week heralded the grand opening of their newest food and beverage outlet: Corsair, by celebrity chef Scott Conant. The Turnberry Resort staff graciously hosted the MMH class at their beautiful resort and in exchange, the MMH class divided into small groups in order to assess 4 aspects of Turnberry’s standard operating procedures. South Florida was a wonderful change of pace and temperature and MMH ’15 tried to enjoy both while working hard.

After three days of working onsite at Turnberry with their executive team the MMH class dispersed and began vacation. Over vacation we will all individually work on our assigned tasks and  communicate within our teams. By mid-February each team will submit a comprehensive report to Turnberry Resort on our findings and suggestions for their property.

Special thanks to Professor Hinkin for arranging this wonderful opportunity for MMH ’15 and to Turnberry Resort for welcoming MMH ’15 into their operations and resort.
