This past weekend the MMH class of 2015 migrated to New York City for the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show (http://www.ihmrs.com) and the annual MMH Reception. The show itself is vast and fascinating, but the high point of the weekend is the annual MMH reception held on Sunday evening.
Sunday, November 9th marked the 13th annual Cornell MMH Reception. The MMH Reception is an annual tradition that takes place in New York City in conjunction with the Hotel Show. The reception provides a unique opportunity for MMH alumni, current students, and prospective students to interact and network.
In addition, the MMH Outstanding Alumnus of the Year Award is presented to an MMH or MPS alumna/alumnus who has demonstrated exceptional career progression and continued service to the School of Hotel Administration and its students. This year’s award was presented to Mr. Mark Woodworth, BS ’77 and MPS ’78.
Mr. Woodworth is currently the president of PKF Hospitality Research and has over 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry. He is an involved Cornell SHA alumnus and parent of 2 current Cornell students. As an industry leader, he has been quoted on hospitality issues in publications such as the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, Barron’s, USA Today, the Financial Times, and numerous others. Furthermore, Mr. Woodworth is a Dean’s Distinguished Lecturer and has served a three-year term on the board of advisors for the Center for Hospitality Research.
This tremendous event was sponsored by some of the biggest names in hospitality: Hilton Worldwide, H Syndicate, Questex Hospitality + Travel, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Intercontinental Hotels Group, France 24 and, of course, the Cornell Hotel Society. Attending an event sponsored by such hospitality behemoths impressed upon me Cornell’s far-reaching influence of the hospitality space.
The MMH Reception alone was well worth the trip to New York City. I met some amazing alumni and forged some great connections. Can’t wait to attend next year as an alumna!
