MAE Instructional Labs – Open Positions – SP24

Manufacturing Learning Studio Crew

Are you interested in working in the MLS (formerly the Emerson Shop)? We have opportunities for several students to be part of our team.  You will be part of a crew that makes parts, supervises students, cleans and repairs equipment, organizes and stocks supplies and tools, among many other things that will arise.

There is no experience necessary (we will train and mentor you).  The ideal candidate would be excited to learn new things and work on a team to create a dynamic teaching and learning environment.  (And get dirty and greasy.)

If interested LMK by emailing me at mu25@cornell.edu.  A paragraph or two outlining your current academic goals and why you’d want to do this would be helpful.  Ideally I would like to make decisions before the end of finals.

General Lab Help

We always need help around the labs.  If you want to get some exposure to behind the scenes of the MAE Labs this is your opportunity.  Flexible, varying hours.

All interested students contact (by email):  Matt Ulinski, Hansen Director of Instructional Labs at mu25@cornell.edu

Spacecraft Research Projects – Recruiting

Ever wanted to build a spacecraft? Space Systems Design Studio is a research lab at Cornell University that seeks to push the boundaries of spacecraft capabilities through novel applications of modern physics and innovative design. We are currently engaged in several flight projects to demonstrate concepts, provide research testbeds, and enhance the state of spaceflight technology. Graduates from our lab have interned, worked, and risen to senior management roles at places like NASA, SpaceX, Northrop Grumman, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, Raytheon, General Dynamics, Blue Origin, Planet Labs, Apple, Facebook, Google and many more!

Several of our projects are recruiting for Spring 2024. This includes both launch opportunities (“flight projects”) and spacecraft technology research led by graduate students. We are looking for new members with all levels of experience who want to work on a fast-paced team developing cutting edge technology.

There will be one information session this year:

  • Tuesday January 23rd at 6:00pm (Upson 106)

We are seeking students in ECE, CS, AEP, and MAE, and more. If interested, please see https://www.spacecraftresearch.com/opportunitiesApplications are considered on a rolling basis until Sunday January 28th, but please apply early! Many projects in the lab are looking to finalize recruitment as soon as possible.

S24 Grader/TA Positions Currently Open

Hi all,

I have a couple of courses that still need a grader or TA for the Spring 24 semester. It would be an hourly paid position for 8-10 hours/week.

The courses that need a grader are:

MAE 4160 – Spacecraft Technology and Systems Architecture – Prof. Falco

MAE 5010 – Future Energy Systems – Prof. Barthelmie

MAE 4220/4221/5220 – Introduction to Internet of Things – Technology and Engagement – Prof. Zhang – is looking for a TA.

In order to be a grader and/or TA for these courses, you must have previously taken the course.

Please reach out to me (ab2224) if you are interested.

D23 Graduates – Donate your Calculators/iClickers!

Hey December 23 Grads!

If anyone still has an iClicker and/or calculator laying around and doesn’t need it anymore, please consider donating it to the MAE Undergrad Office!

We do get requests from students for iClickers and calculators each year. In fact – we just had someone borrow a calculator for their final exam since they found their calculator wasn’t working – so it is wonderful to be able to help provide these to students who need them.

This is also a wonderful program to try to help other students cut costs.

If you’re interested in dropping off your iClicker and/or calculator, please reach out to me or drop them off at the Undergrad Office (125 Upson)
