The Project for the Archaeology and Geography of Ancient Transcaucasian Societies (a.k.a. Project ArAGATS) is a joint American-Armenian research initiative that has been conducting archaeological investigations in the environs of Mt. Aragats since 1998. Founded by Adam T. Smith and Ruben Badalyan, the project has developed into growing international team of scholars and students dedicated to defining the broad contours of human settlement and the emergence and reformation of social and political life in the Tsaghkahovit Plain and Aparan Valley of central Armenia before the modern era.
