The great thing about going away to college is coming home for long breaks! I have been celebrating the successful survival of another semester of crazy schedules and tough classes with an exciting adventure: cleaning. Yes, I have spent approximately twenty-four hours cleaning my room back home to ensure that I have a spot for the three years’ worth of stuff I have accumulated during my time on the hill. I wasn’t prepared for this unfortunately but now that it is done I am on to looking ahead to what I need to accomplish in my 21 days left in the United States. The biggest hurdle, obtaining my visa, is finally complete J! FedEx returned my passport to me at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve; I can officially reside in Sweden!! My next adventure: booking a hostel for my first two days there. I’ve investigated this quite a bit; I’ve talked with friends who stayed in hostels and read consumer reviews, so I am feeling pretty comfortable staying in a dorm style room when I get there.
Unfortunately, my mother is not quite as comfortable. Which is understandable; her “baby” (as she continues to call me to my family) is traveling to a foreign country by herself, so for an additional fourteen dollars a night, I will most likely be staying in my own room. That will allow me to still travel through the city of Uppsala, Sweden and become familiar with my five-month home.
Yet all of that can wait until tomorrow, because today, I’m celebrating Christmas with my family! Tonight, I get to see 8 aunts, 6 uncles, 21 cousins, 6 second-cousins, and one grandparent. So on this festive day I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year!
