Ebola Crisis

Recently, there has been a lot of news on the outbreak of Ebola.  The article “Outbreak map: Where has Ebola spread to so far? And how many people have died? Here’s what you need to know” discusses the spreading of Ebola.  The main three countries that have been infected are Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Libra. However, recently there have been a few cases of people infected internationally. This includes the United States, UK, Spain and a few other places. Many officials deny the possibility of an outbreak because of the strong infection control programs. However, since a few outbreaks have occurred, there is still a possibility of a global pandemic. The article also includes graphs of the places the infection has occurs with links.

This is very interesting because it directly relates to networks.  One way to look in to seeing how the disease will spread is the triadic closure property. This allows us to see what links are likely to form, thus causing the spread of infection. The people are the nodes and the infection spreads by contact with other people. However, the spread of the disease can also be looked into by the traveling of people and where the disease might go. Further, since doctors and hospitals come in the largest contact with Ebola, therefore, the doctors and hospitals can be thought of as components (giant). of the graphs. This is very interesting because now officials can use networks to predict there very important issue.
