Internship title: Horticulture Intern

Description:
Interns will work with all levels of staff in the daily care of the gardens and plant collections. Learn both hardy and subtropical plants, refined gardening skills and new and traditional design methods. Work options include garden care, greenhouse and nursery management, database management and herbarium specimen preparation in conjunction with the University of South Carolina Herbarium. Interns will also manage one stand-alone, special project.

Moore Farms Botanical Garden is a non profit public garden set in rural Lake City, South Carolina. This dynamic 35-acre garden was established 11 years ago and includes a vegetable garden, green roof, turf farm, pond gardens, formal shrub borders and a greenhouse and nursery. Other land use includes agriculture, forestry, pine straw production and wildlife habitat.

Desired qualifications:
We are seeking students with an interest in horticulture and botanical gardens. The internship is intended to allow juniors, seniors and recent graduates to design and manage creative projects and to explore their career options. Preferred majors include: Horticulture, Botany and Landscape Architecture.

When offered: Year round, from 3 months to 1 year + internships

Compensation and incentives include on-site housing in a cottage with satellite TV & Wi-Fi. Interns receive a taxable stipend of $1800 per month. Paid field-trips and work exchanges will be arranged with local gardens including Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden, Riverbanks Zoo & Botanical Garden and Brookgreen Gardens.
