Lori Margolis Interiors- Interior Design Intern

Description: Lori Margolis offers an interior design internship to support the staff. Clients are based in New York City, Connecticut, and the Hamptons. Applicants must live in or near New York City and be willing to work in the office or remote.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist designers with specifying FF&E and sourcing materials at the D&D building
  • Produce technical drawings (plans, elevations, sections, architectural/millwork details) that illustrate the design intent and use of materials for a range of residential and commercial projects
  • Develop Interior Design packages and concept/mood strategies; and successfully implement them from concept phase through project execution
  • Creating visuals for client meetings in Photoshop and formatting into presentations
  • Communicating and corresponding with vendors
  • Assisting with installations
  • Help organize materials library

Design Intern

Barrel is a digital agency that designs, builds, and optimizes e-commerce websites for brands. We work with exciting brands across fashion, beauty, CPG, and home goods. We are a highly collaborative and fully distributed team.
Barrel is seeking a Design Intern to join our Design team. This is a paid, 3-6 month program, and you can work remotely within the US in the eastern and central time zones.

As a design intern, you will work alongside our team members and build experience on projects like content creation for social campaigns, website redesigns, and email marketing campaigns. You will receive guidance and feedback along the way and have various opportunities to contribute during creative brainstorming sessions. You are not required to be on-site for this internship as we are a remote-first team with members of the team located around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work within an existing design system and contribute fresh ideas and new approaches/insights to challenges.
  • Assists the team in creating designs for internal projects and client deliverables.
  • Research design trends and consumer behaviors.
  • Independently schedules design reviews, takes notes, and actively participates when relevant in internal and client-facing meetings.

Skills:

  • Good eye for layout, color and typography, including basic understanding of web design principles.
  • Enthusiastic and able to contribute at any given stage throughout the process. Actively takes the lead on a given task and can pitch in wherever help is needed.
  • Consistently seeks out answers to questions and initiates independent research to overcome challenges – ability to go the extra mile to educate self when working in new spaces.
  • Eager and open to learning new software and trying new design techniques – show initiative to understand new processes.
  • Recent graduate or currently enrolled Junior/Senior pursing a Bachelor’s degree in Design, Graphic Design, Advertising, or similar creative discipline
  • Previous design internship experience within an agency is a plus
  • Possess an interest in eCommerce/Retail
  • Comfortable working in the Adobe Suite and Canva
  • Working knowledge of HTML/CSS preferred but not required (our designers are not expected to build websites
  • Experience working within a Mac environment, Adobe Suite, Figma, Google Suite, Zoom and Slack. We use internal programs like Asana, Harvest and Pitch.

The User Experience team gathers insights and uses them to inspire and inform design. We are a multi-disciplinary team of Interaction Designers, Visual Designers, User Researchers, Copywriters and Web Developers who collaborate closely with each other, and with Engineering and Product Management, to create innovative, usable products.

In this role, you’ll address complex tasks and transform them into intuitive, accessible, and easy-to-use solutions for users. You will collaborate with teams of other Designers, Researchers, Engineers, and Product Managers throughout the design process. At each stage, you will anticipate what users need, advocate for them, and more.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, or a related field, and in your penultimate year of study.
  • A design portfolio that showcases design principles for web or mobile platforms.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Returning to degree program after completion of the internship.
  • Experience in interaction, graphic, or motion design.
  • Experience with design tools (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Framer Studio, etc.).
  • Knowledge of user-centered design principles.
  • Ability to apply brand visual assets in a user interface context.
