Dr. Sue Sundar is an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) at the David Eccles School of Business, University of Utah where she also serves as the Director of the Operations Management Program. Following her PhD in Operations Management at the David Eccles School of Business, University of Utah, Dr. Sundar was appointed as Visiting Assistant Professor at the Driehaus College of Business, DePaul University, Chicago. Her research interests lie in the area of Service Operations, particularly the area of Healthcare Operations. She has worked with leading healthcare organizations in Utah researching the effects of implementing operations management principles in the healthcare arena. Dr. Sundar has looked at the application of process standardization to the management of complex and deadly medical illnesses. During these analyses, she has tracked the processes of care starting within the emergency departments and going through highly specialized intensive care settings.

Dr. Sundar has also worked on understanding disaster preparedness and its impact on adverse outcomes following mass events such as flu pandemics. Her work on the 2009 influenza pandemic has been accepted in the International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters and seeks to understand and measure the state-based local response to mass disasters. As part of this work, a “Disaster Preparedness Triangle” framework has been proposed to analyze preparedness in anticipation to disaster outcomes. Dr. Sundar has also worked on a number of clinical research projects within the Departments of Ophthalmology and Internal Medicine.
As the Director of the Operations Management Program, she oversees several Capstone projects with top US companies that have operations within Utah. Some of these student projects have resulted in significant operational impact for the involved companies.

Dr. Sundar is also a passionate teacher and has taught different Operations Management courses ranging from business statistics to quality management. She has won awards for teaching that include the Quality Matters Star Award for DePaul Online Teaching. She was also recently recognized by the University of Utah LDS Student Association for Excellence in Education.
