My research interests lie at the intersection of international agriculture/rural development, nutrition, and powerful genomic tools. In order to apply these tools effectively, a large amount of phenotypic information must be gathered and analyzed quickly and accurately. To this end, I have joined an international team of computer scientists and cassava breeders to develop a smartphone app that will integrate and improve upon existing image processing, modeling, and data collection programs. This app will enable field-based high-throughput phenotyping that can be widely distributed through existing breeder networks, increasing the overall efficiency of breeding programs and ultimately contributing to food security through the accelerated development of improved cassava cultivars.
