Tiger beetles article

Daniel Zurek and I recently published an article on why tiger beetles hold their antennae forward in such a downcurved posture and what they do with them. It turns out that the beetles run so fast that they’re blind to obstacles due to motion blur and crash if they don’t hold the antennae out front like a blind person’s cane.

Check out “Not exactly rocket science”, where Ed Yong compares the beetles to a blind person holding out two white canes, but on rocket skates.
