We’ve extended the deadline to Thursday January 16th! Submit your design ASAP.

We challenge you to design the 3×3-raised beds – design just one or design them all! What vegetables do you want to grow, perhaps something reliable or something new? What plant combinations would you choose? How will you incorporate succession planting or cover crops so there is a harvest all season long?

2014 Design Criteria and Submission Requirements:

  • Plant choices must be appropriate for the New York State growing regions/Zones 4-7
  • Consider the whole growing season with preference given to year-round ideas, e.g. season extension and winter cover crops.
  • Replicable designs – can be detailed but not too complicated to follow.
  • Submit your design between December 18th and January 16th, 2014 (new deadline). You’ll need to include (1) a plant list (PDF. or Word doc) of your chosen species and varietals (if applicable) (2) a JPG. image/s (drawing, map, or similar) of the design for each 3×3-raised bed you are designing.

I would like to see designs for raised beds which take into account crop rotations. I am trying to have at least a 3 year gap between plants of the same family. It gets tricky when some families have more vegetables which I want to grow.
