The Great New York State Fair: Claudia Hitt, 4-H youth development horticulture superintendent, loves it all!  “I love the people I work with, the chaos, the problem solving of unrecorded exhibits, the youth, the exhibits themselves. I love Horticulture and it’s exciting!”  IMG_0841Her secret to managing chaos?  Preparation.  “I like these things because I plan and get organized as much as I can beforehand.”  Claudia is eager each year to see what exhibits the kids have come up with. She also enjoys the opportunity to teach young people and/or educators what it is she is looking for in exhibiting, and perhaps why an exhibit was evaluated the way it was.  We appreciate her dedication to making the horticulture part of 4-H youth development run so smoothly!

We are always looking for young people to become involved in our NYS 4-H garden-based learning program, and for evaluators to get involved at the fair.  Interested?  Please get in touch with us.  We’ll steer young people toward the program nearest you, and if you want to join us in evaluating youth projects, we’ll begin getting you familiar with the process in the winter of ’11.  Come join us!
