London-Bound Cornell Olympian Morgan Uceny
Morgan is the ’07 CALS grad who’s competing in the London Olympics. A few fun facts about her and her running talents:
Height: 5’6” | Weight: 117
Personal Records: 800 meters in 1:58 | 1500 meters in 4:00
For context, that’s 1 lap around Barton Hall in about 30 seconds.
1500 meters is about .9 miles, so she’s running about 13.5 mph. That means she could run from one end of Manhattan to the other in 1 hour (assuming no traffic, crowds or parades got in her way.)
To date she holds the 25th fastest outdoor 1500m time in the world for women; there are only 18 women who run this event faster than her and none of them are from the USA. The world record in the women’s outdoor 1500m is 3:50 and the Olympic record is 3:54.
Uceny is the 4th Cornellian athlete to make the 2012 London Olympics, joining triple jumper Muhammad Halim ’08, who will be competing for the Virgin Islands; current junior Bruno Hortelano-Roig in the men’s 4×100, who is suiting up for Spain; and Ken Jurkowski ’03, an American single sculls rower.
