Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is vested with supreme control over the university, including all of our colleges and other units. Among many other responsibilities, the board elects the president, adopts an annual plan of financial operation, and establishes degrees to be awarded.
There are 64 voting members. Here’s how they break down:
Alumni-elected: 8
Student-elected: 2
Ex-officio: 4 (university president, NY State governor, president of the state senate, speaker of the state assembly)
Staff-elected: 1
Faculty-elected: 2
Life trustee: 1 (Eldest lineal descendant of Ezra Cornell)
Governor-appointed: 3
Board-appointed: 43
Next week, a look at the demographics of current Board members.
