Food requirements
We grow these flies on cornmeal food.
Temperature
Members of the genus Chymomyza grow best between 18 – 25°C, with development slowing as the temperatures lower. Embryo to adult will take 12 to 20 days depending upon the temperature.
Pupation conditions
The larvae will typically crawl up the sides of the vial in order to pupate. The addition of paper along the side of the vial when there are many larvae present will increase yields of adult flies.
