Candid at Cornell

Well, the summer has finally arrived. Those that read my previous post know that once I turned in two papers on May 3, I had two weeks before my one–and only– straightforward exam on the 17th. I ultimately decided to come home for a week and relax before heading back to pack everything up. Hanging around school without worries was fun at the beginning, but once my friends settled into their crazy study schedules I knew I’d be happier at home.

So…I’m done for the year! I can’t believe I’m halfway through college. This summer, I’ll be working at Cigna Healthcare, in an internal marketing and web development position. I’m excited, because I’m positive I want to go into business, and this internship will allow me to apply what I’ve learned in my various business classes at Cornell. Plus, the office is literally a five minute drive from my home. Talk about convenience…

Looking back over my time at Cornell thus far, I think I’ve enjoyed sophomore year more than freshman year. While freshman year was characterized by a sea of new faces and opportunities, sophomore year was when things “came together.” I felt a sense of community in Alice Cook House that I didn’t really feel up on North, I gained leadership positions in some of my extracurricular activities, and  for the most part, I got better at creating schedules and choosing courses that interested me.  

It’s also weird that many people I know in the class of 2012 are actually graduating and departing from Ithaca. I didn’t know too many seniors last year, but this year I do…and it’s odd to think that, because they’re moving to various places across the country and around the world to begin the next chapter of their lives, I won’t be seeing them for a while. That’ll be me (assuming all goes to plan) in 2 short years…

Stay tuned for next year’s adventures. Will I study abroad? Will my courses be much tougher junior year? Is graduate school admissions–i.e. law or business school–something I might have to face?
