Update to Firefox and Java – restart required
To all Desktop Services-supported staff:
We are pushing out security updates to the Firefox browser and Java for all staff computers on our domain to bring them to the latest versions (Firefox 3.6.3 and Java 6-Update20). Please restart your computer at your earliest convenience to get these updates.
Those with laptops supported by DS should contact us and schedule a time to have these updates installed.
Here’s some further information about the new version of Firefox:
- When you first launch the new version, you may get a prompt asking if you’d like Firefox to be your default browser. If you use Internet Explorer as your default, just click No when the prompt comes up.
- You will also get a notification that a new add-on has been installed, which is the Java Console.
- For those who use IE Tab, which allows the Internet Explorer engine to be used within Firefox, you can download the updated version here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/92382
If you have any questions or comments regarding either of these security updates, please contact us.
