Exchange Project Update 10-23-2009
This message is an update on the CIT Exchange Project (formerly known as the Ensemble Project).
New Project Name: Goodbye Ensemble, Hello Exchange
There has been a change in the name of the project. CIT found that the Ensemble name was too confusing and has decided to use the name Exchange Project for the faculty/staff component. (Cmail is now the name of the student component.)
New Calendar Migration Date
CIT now expects that the majority of campus email accounts will be migrated to Exchange by April 2010 instead of their previous prediction of February 2010. Therefore Calendar migration from Oracle Calendar to Exchange has been pushed back to April/May 2010.
Status of Library staff migration
After this week, more than half of the Library staff email accounts will be on the Exchange server. Staff email migration has been moving steadily, with only a few easy-to-fix hiccups. Thanks to all of you for your patience as this process has been occurring!
We have converted about 50 staff to Outlook. Again, we have seen few major issues. Outlook does take a little bit to get used to. Many of those who have moved to Outlook took the Outlook training class and were happy they did. If you have not signed up for an Outlook training class please do so ASAP.
Here is a list of the available classes:
- Microsoft Outlook 2007 Beginner Training Workshops – These instructor-led, hands-on beginner training workshops are scheduled to coincide with projected conversion dates for each unit/department. Basics will be covered. Please see <http://www.library.cornell.edu/Adminops/libhumres/documents/CULOutlook-FallTrng.pdf> to register for a workshop for your targeted group.
- Microsoft Outlook 2007 Question & Answer Workshops – Each workshop is open to all desktop-supported staff. They are designed to allow staff more time for dialogue regarding the fundamentals of using MS Outlook 2007. Staff may attend with specific questions they’d like to have covered. Register at: <http://cornell.veplan.net/Education/course.aspx?sched=1&c=7491>.
- Microsoft Outlook 2007 “Power User” Workshops – Each workshop is open to all desktop-supported staff. These instructor-led, hands-on workshops are designed for users who are interested in instruction at a higher/intermediate level. Register at: <http://cornell.veplan.net/Education/course.aspx?sched=1&c=7492>
CIT will be organizing future trainings for both Entourage 2008 and Apple Mail 4 (for Mac users with Snow Leopard). Mac users can find more information at <http://www.cit.cornell.edu/services/applemail/index.cfm>.
Remaining Schedule for the Library Staff
Here is the expected schedule for the remaining departments to move to Exchange and the expected time frame for moving to Outlook. Please do not try to configure Outlook yourself – this is something Desktop Services will do for you. If you wish to convert to Outlook at a different schedule than indicated, please contact Desktop Services to arrange another time.

Let us know if you have any questions about this information or any other aspect of the Exchange Project.
