Ciao Milano!

BFA students abroad in Rome left for their first field trip to Milan on Tuesday 9/17. After sleepily making our way to Termini Station at 7 in the morning, we doze off beside misty mountains coming to life with the morning, steadily heading North. We arrive in Milan around 11:45am and after quickly settle at the hotel before taking the subway to Milan’s best paninis at De Santis. We satisfy our hungry tummies with delicious cured meats and melted cheeses. Re-energized with cappuccino and espresso from a quaint café next door we head through the luxurious Grand Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II to the Museo del Novecento which features incredible Italian artists of the 1900s with De Chirico of the metaphysical movement and Boccioni of the futurists part of their permanent collection.
I was particularly inspired by the paintings of Giorgio Morandi, his pronounced brushstrokes make visible the magical texture and movement of oil paint.
After the museum we go inside the magnificent Milan Cathedral where we’re awestruck by masterpiece stained glass windows. To end the day, we make our way up 919 steps to the exquisite roof of the Cathedral where we got the unique opportunity to view The Duomo Piazza from a bird’s eye view.
