Destination 2: Alberobello

In Alberobello, we met with a restoration architect that specializes in the typical dome structures found in Alberobello and along the north coast of Africa (especially Tunis and Morocco). She was obviously quite passionate about this type of dry stone assembly, meaning there was no mortar between each layer of stone, and even lived in one herself for part of the year. Walking around the city, I had felt like we were walking on one of those movie sets they show you on the Universal Hollywood tour. Everything house had a similar finish of white paint, the streets were almost completely empty besides the few wandering tourists, they were clean and made of perfectly cut grey stone, perhaps the complete opposite of Rome. We had only the early morning to stay, so after a short walk we all had a small lunch and headed to our next destination – Bari.
