Wine Tasting in Rome!

On a Friday afternoon, Art and Architecture students gathered in Piazza Santacroce prepared to depart for Cornell AAP in Rome’s official Wine Tasting course! The class was reserved at the local restaurant, Renato e Luisa, and offered enlightenment to all of the multifaceted wine culture in Italy.

The class was both entertaining and thorough. Our connoisseur was very knowledgeable of the history and methods of winemaking. He also explained to us the proper steps taken prior to enjoying an elegant glass of any wine, whether it be red or white. He taught us how to match a wine with our food, how to gauge the age of a wine by its color, and even how to identify the various aromas within a glass.

The meal was a choreographed ballet of flavors. Each sip and bite was powerful. We began with  Prosecco and a diverse plate of antipasti. Later, we were poured a glass of white wine and then a red glass of Chianti with a salmon risotto entree. The meal was topped off with a melty brownie.

There were toasts and happy smiles among the students and faculty. I hope to return to the restaurant again.
