On Monday, a representative from XTU (pronounced Ex-Tee-You) Architects came to give us a lecture about some of the works done by his firm. He showed us a range of finished, in-progress, and conceptual projects to give insight into the design process behind each one.
XTU’s buildings all involve organically formed, undulating forms with perforated façades. The firm had designed buildings all over the World, including the Jeongok Prehistory Museum in South Korea, the Civilation Museum on La Reunion Island in France, a Wine Museum in Bordeaux, and the French Pavilion at the Milan Expo.
Additionally, they presented their research development of photosynthetic transition, or a way for architectural façades to clean the air of pollutants through the use of micro-algae. The projects that used this technology were X-Sea-Ty, which floats on water, and Wild on Wall (WOW), a vertical farm façade installation.
The guest lecturer was very intelligent and well spoken. The projects that he presented were so complex and inspiring; even the students were impressed with the quality of work.
