My research focuses on the causes and consequences of malnutrition in women and children in low-income countries. I am also a member of the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Nutrition and the National Academy of Sciences Forum on Investing in Young Children Globally, and recipient of the Kellogg Award of the American Society for Nutrition for excellence in international nutrition research. My collaborative research projects are ongoing in Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia. My work focuses especially on the integration of direct nutrition interventions (foods and supplements) with strategies from other sectors such as infectious disease control, water, sanitation and hygiene, food safety, and reproductive health.
