4-H is Where Youth Are
4-H programs are delivered in many different ways–afterschool, cloverbuds, military, clubs, camps, during school, and special interest programs. 4-H goes where youth are , using the Essential Elements to support positive youth development .
4-H programs can take several forms. You can join a 4-H Club, a group of at least 5 members with adult volunteers leaders. Clubs choose their own activities from 4-H projects and design their program year. Youth enrollment in 4-H is $10 for the year, not to exceed $25 per family (no one is refused membership because of financial hardship-please contact us).
4-H Cloverbud programs are designed for youth ages 5 to 8 and in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. 4-H Cloverbud programs are activity-focused and not project-focused and built on cooperative learning, rather than competitive activities. The primary difference between a 4-H Cloverbud activity and a 4-H project is that a Cloverbuds member engages in varied activities which focus on developing a specific skill or concept utilized in completing the activity rather than focusing on a long-term planned course of study in a specific project (subject) area. Cloverbud programs may be part of any other delivery method.
4-H brings engaging, learning experiences and technical support to Afterschool programs.
4-H supports military families. Military programs may fall into any of the other delivery methods.
4-H partners with teachers and schools to share 4-H and Land-Grant University resources.
Special Interest Programs
Special Interest programs are usually shorter term activities based around specific interests. You can sign up for as many of these as you’d like. Sometimes fees apply, and they may vary depending on program materials and needs. Each program usually has its own registration process–see program details for more information.
