4-H Dog Obedience Classes 2019

It’s that time of year again! Dog obedience registration is now open and classes start soon!

Classes start Thursday, April 25th in the evening, preregistration and payment are due by April 12th to CCE. (COST: $20 per youth/dog combination. For example, if you have (2) dogs participating in the program, then the fee would be $40.)

CLASS TIMES: (classes will be held at Cornell Cooperative Extension Office, 248 Grant Ave, Auburn, NY 13021).

  • Beginner 6:30-7:15
  • Advanced 7:30-8:15

PARENT or GUARDIAN must attend and stay for all classes, regardless of the youth’s age. Dogs must be at least 6 months of age and controllable in order to be used in dog obedience classes. This will be determined at the discretion of the instructor and/or 4-H Educator.

Members will be divided into appropriate class-levels based on age and experience.

BEGINNER MEMBERS:

For Beginner Novice Class ONLYAll brand-new dog obedience participants are required to do a “meet and greet” on Thursday, April 18th. New Members will be scheduled for an appointment to come have their dog evaluated for controllability and to get fitted for a leash and collar (please make note of the time in your confirmation of registration email). This appointment will take approximately 15 minutes. If you need a PROPER leash and collar you will be responsible for this additional cost. Plan on about $15 dollars total for these 2 items.

Youth are REQUIRED to attend all dog obedience classes, unless there is a family emergency or illness. As such, if a youth misses more than 3 classes, they will not be eligible to graduate from the course.

NEW this year!! Beginner youth must be able to attend the first two class held on April 25th and May 2nd in order to take the 2019 dog training course. Due to the nature of this program, it is imperative that youth be able to attend these classes.
