Raising Pheasant Chicks!

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) is once again offering day old pheasant chicks to New York State residents to rear and release. This program helps support wild pheasant populations throughout the state.

If you are interested:

 

 

  • ANYONE can apply to participate in the Day-old Pheasant Chick Program, including 4-H members, schools, clubs, and community members
  • Participants must have appropriate brooding facilities and an outdoor rearing pen
  • Release sites must be open to the public for pheasant hunting
  • Applications for chicks must be submitted before noon on March 22, 2019
  • Participants should be familiar with the DEC pheasant rearing guide (click HERE)
  • Chicks must be released at 8 weeks of age or older, but no later than the end of pheasant hunting season
  • Pheasant chicks are not to be purchased, sold or traded
  • Chicks will be available for pickup in mid-May of 2019
