I have a feeling I’m not in Cornell anymore!
January 28, 2007 at 5:23 pm | In Spring 07, or England 101 | No CommentsIt’s interesting because the moment I looked around my new home, it wasn’t a cultural difference that I immediately recognized; it was the campus difference.
Cornell is a sprawling but definite “campus.” We have quads, libraries, cafes, and classes all within 15 minutes of each other, all on campus.
Well, I’m definitely not in Cornell anymore. I’m in a city, and that means a city campus. Although I’m still close to campus (about 20 minutes) it’s definitely not the waterfall lined, campusy feel that I was used to. Walking up the street, I pass countless restaurants, bars, clubs, pubs, cafes, boutiques, shops and the like. To be quite honest, it’s absolutely refreshing to be outside of the university bubble that I have grown so accustomed to.
Also, must say, I won’t complain about Cornell’s notorious slope again. It just so worked out that Bristol is a city upon a hill. Or, as it seems to me, many hills. I tried one route to campus that led me up a gradient about as steep as the steepest parts of Cornell’s slope, only lasting for 10 times longer. 45 minutes of that quickly taught me that route was forever more OUT OF THE QUESTION. (By the way, if you think Cornell’s campus involves a lot of walking, forget it! After only a few days here my legs were screaming for mercy!)
Anyways, I have a plethora of things I could talk to you about and I’m sure I’ll get to them all in good time, but if you have any pressing inquiries, let me know! I would be happy to fill you all in on whatever it is you might be wondering.
Cheers!
It may be cheesy, but it sums up my last 3 days here
