Scratch That

Blake V., Glenny F., Austin K, Evan P., and Daniel P. have been working this week to learn how to do some programming. We all decided to use a program called Scratch, developed by MIT. This is a very simplistic version of programming designed to provide an introduction to the logic needed in more complicated programming languages. This is helpful, as none of us have any programming experience.

At first, we decided to create a caricature* of the popular iPhone game Angry Birds. This was a good introduction to the language we were working in, as this required us to figure out how to add things like gravity and bouncing to the physics engine of the game. these skills would be helpful in our final project especially.  Eventually, we began to tire of the Angry Birds game and started a new project.

The new project was a maze, and a tribute to the classic arcade game Pacman.  This was a relatively simple project, but allowed us to practice some of the skills we learned with the first game. We also added a few surprises that you’ll have to check out on your own. The link to all of our projects will be down at the bottom of the post.

Our final project of the week was a recreation of the viral game Flappy bird. Using simple programming, we managed to almost completely recreate the game that topped the iTunes store for months in about 3 hours. We’re all gonna be rich. This group has been really fun to work with, and we all got along and pitched in ideas. Check out our profile down at the bottom, we’re going to continue working on these programs once we’ve gone home.
