Hello Spring 2018 students

note that the static pages at right have basic information about the class that is analogous to what one might put in a syllabus. I will use the blog to post announcements to class, but rarely; the primary mode will be on slack.

Glad to have you in class!

please sign up ASAP for the final exam

hi all.  The final exam signup is at

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0b4fa4ac2ea64-mae6680

Please note: if you count up the avail slots it is fewer than the # of students.  I am not unaware of this.  The signup is set up to be adaptive and more slots will open up once these are full.

the signup is meant to be in good faith i.e. I plan to administer the exams as scheduled.  We do sometimes fall behind, so you should expect that you should be on time for your exam but sometimes we get up to 20 min behind.    also, I have on occasion had to reschedule exams; this is uncommon and if it were to happen it would be caused by things I can’t control.

testing the time zone of the blog

just seeing whether the time zone of the blog is different from eastern time zone.  I checked this before sending out the prelim signup genius thing but that was before daylight savings time.

Office hours moved to 2:15-3:00pm MW 245 Olin Hall

It turns out that I could reserve 245 Olin for office hours, so I will have office hours 2:15-3pm MW in the same room in which we have class.  This replaces the MW 2:30-3:30 office hours that I advertised earlier in the term.

Hi all just testing the timing of posts to make sure I get it right

I doubt that this is a big deal, but in case anyone is stressed out about exam scheduling I want to make sure the blog software is using the right time zone, so I am sending this test message.  you can ignore this note.

Reminder about slack and blog for MAE6680

as I mentioned in class, most communication will be on slack.  About 27 of you have signed up for slack (thanks), but we’ve got 30-40 more that need to.  please go to https://cancerforengineers.slack.com/signup to sign up.  I also sent invites to everyone whose email I have (ie those formally signed up for class); so there is also an invite in your email or maybe spam folder.
this is an example of a blog post; the blog basically has some static pages with syllabus-like information; it also serves as an email listserv and a repository for notes I send to you.  Everyone needs to be subscribed to the blog.  I subscribed all of the emails I had on faculty center.  anyone not subscribed needs to subscribe by entering their email in the box at upper right at the blog.  of course anyone not subscribed won’t get an email, and would only see this if they went to the blog site 🙂 🙂 🙂

slack signup

much of the discussion associated with the class will be on slack.  to sign up, go to

https://cancerforengineers.slack.com/signup

and sign up with a @cornell.edu ID.  Please add your name to your slack profile so I can tell who you are when you send slack messages.
