Chasing Non-Renewals Examples

Class of ’88 social media post

Hello fellow Class of ‘88er!

Did your Cornell experience enrich your life? Do memories of Cornell bring a smile to your face? If so, it’s time to give back to our alma mater by supporting our class!

My name is Laura Bloch, and I’m the membership chair for the Class of ‘88. We have a bunch of class members who paid their dues in the past but have yet to renew this year. I’m here to ask you to please renew!

What are class dues used for?

Class dues are used to support class initiatives that engage our classmates with one another and with Cornell. Dues are the glue that keeps our class together.

Dues are only $35/year. The best bet would be to set up auto-renewal. That way, you won’t have to remember to renew again – you just “set it and forget it.”

Here is the link to or renew your dues online. After you enter your class year and click Apply, the membership options will appear.

If you aren’t sure whether you paid your 2017 dues, or if you want to check whether you’re on auto-renewal but your credit card might have expired, just contact me and I’ll be happy to look into it.

On behalf of all your Class of ‘88 officers, THANK YOU.- Laura Bloch

P.S. Mark your calendars for our 30th reunion: June 7-10, 2018!

Class of ’73 talking points for phone calls

Hi (classmate), this is (your name) calling on behalf of the Cornell Class of 1973. You’ve supported the work of the class in the past by paying class dues, and I hope you will continue to do so by Googling “Cornell class dues” and following the link to pay online or to get the address to which to send a check.

Cornell does not subsidize class activities at all; they’re entirely paid for by we alumni. Your dues help pay for communications to the class, such as the cost-effective postcards used to announce class newsletters letters that are published on-line, and organizing social events for and with classmates.

Class dues pay for the work of the class, such as class officer teleconferences and Reunion planning sessions. We have also started to make an investment in the future of Cornell by paying for our Class of ’73 scholarship recipient to come to the Cornell Alumni Leadership Conference (CALC).

To pay online, simply Google “Cornell class dues” and follow the link. You can choose to include a subscription to the Cornell Alumni Magazine or just pay the class dues portion. Whatever you choose, you’ll be paid up through next June. Thanks!

Class of ’55 hard-copy letter

June 2018

Dear Classmate;

Based on Cornell’s accounting records we realize that you had not paid your current membership dues for this fiscal year. Perhaps you forgot or just didn’t get around to paying. You had paid your dues last year and in February we sent you our annual dues letter documenting how to pay this year’s dues. We are now following up with a similar letter to enable you to once again forward your payment to Cornell. If you’ve recently sent in a payment, please disregard this letter—and thanks for your support of our class.

It is important to understand that your class dues are not a gift to the university. These funds are designed to more deeply engage our classmates with one another and with Cornell. As class officers, we determine how these funds are allocated. Examples include class communications and regional class gatherings. You can also receive a discounted subscription rate to the Cornell Alumni Magazine.

We are now just two years away from celebrating our 65th Reunion after our very successful 60th Reunion. It is the objective of your officers and council to make this Reunion affordable for all members of the class of 1955. For the last of our four Reunions we have set the record for the
number of our classmates who returned to the hill. We wish to continue that trend and your dues will enable us to achieve that goal. Mark your calendars for June 4 – 7, 2020.

You can send in your dues form with the enclosed envelope or you can visit https://alumni.cornell.edu/alumni-life/classes/ and click on “class dues” to pay online. You can also call (607) 255-3021 and pay over the phone.
