World Catalog – Search Cornell and Beyond

Not very long ago, the library asked faculty and students – “what do you expect from the library catalog” or something close to that. Amongst many things, Cornell users wanted it to be a single search box (with ability to conduct advanced searches) and also to be able to search beyond Cornell. No longer do users wish to only find what Cornell owns. Users want to be able to search beyond the confines of the Cornell Library. So, here it is. A new tool called WorldCat local. Try this tool from the Cornell University Library Labs page and tell us what you think. It is a single search box that will allow you to search libraries all over the world that make their records available. Worldcat’s main features are:

  • Combines searches for materials at Cornell and libraries worldwide
  • Search for books, journals, videos, documents and more as well as articles from four databases
  • Locate print material in Cornell Libraries, link directly to online resources and easily request materials not held at Cornell
