Farm Meeting to Focus on Silvopasture

Penn State Extension, in cooperation with Cornell Extension, is planning a twilight meeting in Columbia County on Thursday, August 23rd from 6:00 PM until dark. The meeting is for interested livestock owners to learn about development and management of silvopasture. Silvopasture is the combined production of quality timber, forages, and livestock on the same land.

Guest speaker for the event will be Brett Chedzoy from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schuyler County. Brett is a regional extension forester and is the forest manager of Cornell’s Arnot Teaching and Research Forest. Brett and his family own and operate Angus Glen Farms, LLC in Watkins Glen, NY – a 450 acre grazing operation that extensively utilizes silvopasturing.

Forks Farm is located in Columbia County at 299 Covered Bridge Road, Orangeville, Pa 17859. The farm is owned and operated by the Hopkins Family. The farm has a large amount of land devoted to silvopasture.

The event is being offered for free. It will begin with a light meal at 6:00 PM followed by the meeting starting at 6:30 PM. Interested persons should register by calling Penn State Extension at 877-345-0691 or going online at: https://extension.psu.edu/central-susquehanna-valley-beef-producer-twilight-meeting. Questions about the meeting can be directed to Dave Hartman, Penn State Extension, at 570-433-3040 or dwh2@psu.edu Silvopasture_Workshop_Twilight_Meeting..
