Election day is edging closer and closer as Cornell students become more and more annoying trying to convince you why they are voting for Obama or McCain. I can’t go five minutes without seeing an Obama T-Shirt, sticker, or stuff or hearing someone yelling outside that McCain was a P.O.W. for the Vietnam war. I get it!!!! I am one of the few Cornellians who isn’t big on politics and just wants the election to be over with, so we can start putting our complete attention on the economy. Many Cornell student groups have made it a point to have college student turnout in record numbers with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. hosting a voter registration banquet to have speakers talk about politics on a whole, Cornell Democrats and Cornell Republicans hosting mock presidential debates to give students an idea of what ideas the presidential candidates bring, and many students tabling to get students registered. It is actually quite a sight to see so many students actively taking an interest in their country.

I also made my vote for the next President of the United States and sent it through absentee ballot since I am a California resident. An eerie feeling came over me when I began to vote, just thinking about how much effort was put into allowing me to mark dots on a presidential ballot. It’s really crazy and I am taking full advantage of the opportunities I am given.

Come election day, I think I am just going to say in my room, because whoever loses I feel I won’t hear the end of it until 2012. It’s 2008 Presidential Election Vote or Die!!!!! I might dress up as P. Diddy with my vote or die T-shirt for Halloween, seems like a good idea.

It’s Bad Boy! Take that, Take That. Vote or Die 2008

The time has finally come where I don’t have to wake up early to go to class, I can just sleep all day,and catch up on Entourage and Family Guy. Fall break has arrived! Those glorious two days we get off because Cornell failed to let us off on Columbus Day and Labor Day. Right now, I am in survival mode, because during fall break all of the dining halls are closed and students are looked upon to fend for themselves. Good thing I have friends who can cook and I continue to leech off of them because there is a limit to how many Honeybuns I can eat for breakfast and how much soup I can microwave for dinner to still consider myself healthy. Even though this would be a great time to catch up on work, I can’t help but enjoy the great weather while I can and catch a breathe before the hustle of Cornell starts again. The best part of this Fall Break getting to watch Boomerang starring Eddie Murphy with a few friends. You have to enjoy the classics on VHS and yes I do have a VHS TV which came through in the clutch!

Cornell students tend to use alot of lingo when it comes to describing certain events and places at Cornell. Below I wrote some general words or phrases used throughout a Cornellian’s day and what their specific meaning is:

Creepin’: This word refers to anyone has committed a suspicious act or is acting awkwardly for no particular reason as if they are hiding something.

Ex. “I saw you walking at 2am, creepin to somebody’s room.”

Mad: Specifically New Yorkers’ term for very. Used in the same context as hella for Californians.

Ex. “You see him jump off the roof! That was MAD crazy!!!”

Prelim: Refers to a test.

Ex. “That prelim was tough. The mean was like 50.”

Bear Nasties: Refers to an a la carte eating place. The food is actually pretty good I don’t really know where this name comes from, but everyone says it.

Ex. “I’m hungry let’s go to Bear Nasties to get something to eat.”

Pre-game: certain debauchery that goes on before the actual party begins

Ex. ” I want to go pre-game before I hit the party.”

Getting it in: This phrase refers the attempt of accomplishing a certain goal. It might refer to interaction between your significant partner, dancing with the girl you desired, or something similar of nature.

Ex. ” It’s been a tough week. let’s go the party, I’m trying to get it in.”

Reckless: Not having any concern or forethought about any acts one might perform

Ex. “I think he drank a little too much, he was acting mad reckless dancing with anything with two legs.”

These are some of the phrases used to describe certain acts and events at Cornell. It is important to be aware of these phrases when you come upon campus, so you won’t instantly be labeled as an immature, unaware freshman.
