Fruit_EvalReduced-risk pest management programs for eastern tree fruits: Research was conducted over multiple years on a project designed to test the effectiveness of a seasonal program to control insect and mite pests of apples using selective (non-OP, carbamate or pyrethroid) reduced-risk insecticides plus pheromone disruption. This work was conducted in 17 sites set up in all the major apple growing areas of New York: Western NY (Appleton, Lyndonville, Waterport, Sodus, Phelps); Central NY region (Lafayette); Hudson Valley (Milton, Stone Ridge, Gardiner); Capital District (Burnt Hills, Granville); and Champlain Valley (Peru, Chazy), and was done in coordination with colleagues in other eastern fruit-producing states (MI, PA, NJ, WV, VA, and NC).  Other research has focused on simplified sampling protocols, the use of highly refined horticultural mineral oils for summer mite management, and organic management systems.
