I am an American Studies major in Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences. In my spare time I am an expert on random Cornell trivia in my capacity as a Cornell blogger, campus tour guide, and writer for the Cornell Alumni Magazine.
Please feel free to ask me any and all questions you might have about anything, from applying to Cornell to existential insights (of which I surely have many).

I’m not crazy about Hendrix but I love a good breakfast sandwich. You can make, and save me one, for when I see you the following Saturday night.

I’m applyig to Cornell for early decision. It’s my first and only choice. I’m hoping that your blog will give me a great insight to student life at Cornell. =)

hi again… I commented on one of your blog posts.
I have a question about attending cornell… I guess it could apply to ithaca as well considering they’re so close.
As I go to an all girls school, I don’t know any guys b/c i’m new to NYC blahblahblah.
Anyways, what are the guys like at Cornell/Ithaca? Are they approachable and friendly or more jock-like and comparable to assholes. The second has been the experience in my previous high schools. I don’t just mean boyfriends, but guy friends, too.
This may sound like a dumb question, but honestly, I’m not slutty or anything… I just like to have a good balance of girl and guy friends thx

Hey Morgan,
Your question is totally valid! The nice thing about a big school like Cornell is that there are all different kinds of people, so you can really find any kind of person you’re looking for. There are plenty of jock-like, preppy guys at Cornell, mostly concentrated in the fraternities, but there are also lots of guys that are very friendly and approachable. For me, I also like to have a good balance of male/female friends, which was one of my biggest complaints at Barnard where I had no male friends. But here at Cornell the tables have turned for me- I often complain that I don’t know enough girls! I’ll be living in a 10 person house next year with 3 girls and 7 boys, and all of my guy friends here are great guys, very friendly and approachable, and not jock-y at all!
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi Mohammad,
Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, there is no magic formula that determines who is accepted and who is not. Cornell receives thousands of applications every year from candidates who have attained incredible achievements- and many of these applicants are not accepted. But at the same time, there are lots of students who get in by just doing their best in high school and participating in activities about which they are passionate. So my advice to you is definitely to apply early, as that shows the admissions staff that you are very interested in coming here. And in your application, highlight those aspects of your life and education that separate you from other applicants- like your international status, and your various honors. The best thing you can do for yourself is to make your application stand out- after awhile everyone looks the same on paper, unless you highlight those aspects of your life that make whoever reads your application remember it.
Hope this was helpful! Good luck with your application!
Sincerely,
Adrienne
