By: Bernadette S. Parr, Senior Associate Director of Admissions in the College of Human Ecology
The College of Human Ecology views society through a wide-angle lens to address contemporary and emerging societal issues. Our students are empowered to expand their scope and connect the complex variables of life through an interdisciplinary study of the human experience that spans design and technology; human development and behavior; human health and nutrition; and public policy and social well-being.
Inspired by the college’s mission, Human Ecology students develop analytical thinking skills and critical perspectives to understand the relationships, institutions, and environments that shape people’s lives.

The college’s unique emphasis on translational research is one way through which our Human Ecology undergraduates connect their sense of responsibility around community well-being to their interest in outreach and problem solving. Approximately 73% of Human Ecology students are involved in or plan to be involved in research (2019 Pulse Survey).
