SS: What do you love most being in New York?

AK: “There is always something to do at a very affordable distance away from you. I can see the skyline every day. For example, I can see my structures project from second year from my room window. I can also walk around and look at precedents. And… I also love all the food options. My favorite food place is Uncles Boons, a Michelin star Thai restaurant.”

SS: What have you discovered about architecture whilst living in New York City.

AK: “Being in the city, exposed me to the more practice side of architecture by going on office visits and meeting alumni during events and exhibitions. Also, working with master’s students in the product studio exposes us to the immediacy of life after school.”

SS: Tell me more about your Product Studio experience.

AK: “I was really happy with the Product Studio at first because I got the company and challenge that I really wanted. However, unfortunately not everyone in the class shares the same enthusiasm about product studio. One area for improvement in the studio was that I wished that they had factored in the algorithm as we chose the projects better was our passion and enthusiasm for the studio.

On the flip side, I think it’s a great opportunity to work with people from different backgrounds and lived experiences. The students come from different majors and have worked for many years in different countries around the world.”

SS: What do you wish you had in NYC that you don’t in the moment?

AK: “I wish I had more friends here in NYC. I have been up to Ithaca twice and I miss them so much!”

SS: Your best NYC moment?

AK: “Fall break! Hahaha… My friend came to visit we spent time in Brooklyn and Long Island City, places that I have not really explored. I also lived there so I really got to learn and know more about the neighborhood.”

SS: If you were to look back in time, what is one thing you would tell yourself as an incoming freshman?

AK: “It’ll be over, you’ll get through it.”
